James Halion, carpenter, member of Masonic Lodge 858, Tullamore, applied to the Grand Lodge of Freemasons in Dublin for charity in 1851. He writes that he is an elderly man with a large family. He had gone to look for work in Ballinasloe and had been employed by Dargan on the railway. After breaking his leg he had become destitute and had been obliged to seek refuge in the South Dublin Union.(1)
